QCoal Group

September 15, 2021 by admin

QCoal Group is a proudly independent Queensland-based company, active in coal exploration, discovery and development in Queensland since 1989.

Our mining projects are predominantly based in central Queensland, supporting thousands of workers, their families and the regional communities where they live.

For each and every one of our coal projects, we run our operations in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible way. This gives us the framework to ensure that we’re continually focused on bettering Queensland and Australia as a whole.

The QCoal Northern Hub is based in the mineral rich Bowen Basin near Collinsville, and includes the vibrant Sonoma, Drake and Jax Mines.

Our open-cut mines seamlessly transform raw materials into high-grade coal. Our product is then railed to Abbot Point Coal Terminal near Bowen for export around the globe.

Over 50% of the workforce lives in the Whitsunday region, with approximately 20% residing locally in either Collinsville or Scottville.

We’re proud of our local talent recruitment initiatives, particularly our Indigenous employees. Approximately 6% of the workforce at the QCoal Northern Hub identify as Indigenous, despite the Queensland coal mining industry average for Indigenous employment sitting at 4%.

In 2023 alone, QCoal Group contributed over $600 million in royalties and taxes to the Queensland and Australian governments. We also spent over $950 million with suppliers in the local and regional communities in which we operate.

Our focus is global, but our heart remains local. And we’re proud to support local communities, while meeting the needs of our customer base and contributing to economic and social development around the world.

About the Collinsville Connect Telecentre

In October 2001, the Collinsville Connect Telecentre opened its doors and invited the community to learn all about the new world of the Internet. 20 years on, the CCT continues to support Collinsville and Scottville residents, local businesses and community groups with IT requirements, education and facilitating community projects.

Funded initially by the Networking the Nation project, the CCT is a not-for-profit community organisation with a mission to ensure every member of the community has access to the online world and the knowledge to navigate the complexities of digital technology.
