Discover the origins of mining in Collinsville and Scottville. Located just outside Scottville, the original No.1 State Mine opened in 1919 and was the region’s first underground coal mine. Today the site demonstrates the harsh working conditions of the first miners and the rudimentary equipment used to haul the coal by hand to the surface.
Tours to the historic mine site can be organised by calling the Collinsville Historic Society on (07) 4785 5868.
